Pain Matures

Unlike the initial violence of your heart being wrenched from your body,

it eventually settles and seeps, changing you the more time you get to know it.

The pain trebles as it grows.

Reaching into parts you didn’t know existed and needing to occupy all the space possible,

it radiates and breeds.

And instead of warming, it hardens and frosts.

Each sweet sound and smell and taste remembered,

is blandly poisoned and embracing it because you have little else,

you close.
